The two mirror image homes were named after the women who originally lived in the homes (yes, adorably, both were named Dorothy).

Once at their new location, the Dorothies will be restored, and two new townhouse buildings will be built at the back.

Granville Island is always a popular destination with guests at our Vancouver bed and breakfast, but during the holiday season it really shines. If you thought Granville Island couldn’t be any more fun, vibrant or cultural, you don’t want to miss out on these upcoming special events!

Here’s what’s happening this holiday season:

Live Music

On December 1, 2, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 and 22, Granville Island will be filled with the sounds of the season. Marketgoers can look forward to shopping amongst fantastic local talent, including Fandango, Scrooge Horns, Los Parranderos, Mama & the OomPapas, Sound Eclectic and the Vancouver Gaelic Choir.

Dundarave Printmakers Christmas Show

An annual salon-style Christmas show featuring etchings, woodcuts, monotypes, serigraphs and more! Held at Dundarave Print Workshop, the show is the perfect place to pick up beautifully framed and reasonably priced gifts that are ready to be wrapped and placed under the tree. The show runs daily until January 6, 2013.

It’s a Wonderful Life

A stage adaption of the holiday classic. Back for its 5th year, the production has delighted over 70,000 audience members with the spirit of the season. The production is now playing until December 29, 2012 at the Granville Island Stage.

Winter Solstice Lantern Festival

The annual Winter Solstice Lantern Festival is a free, family-friendly event that illuminates the longest day of the year with lanterns, music, singing, dancing, drumming and fire. The False Creek Community Centre, located on Granville Island, will be holding lantern-making workshops before the festival to help you get in the spirit.

The holiday season has officially landed in Stanley Park! Now in its 15th year, Bright Nights in Stanley Park (November 29 to January 1; closed on Christmas Day) transforms the forest into a dazzling light display complete with music, entertainment and over 2 million twinkling lights. Ride the train, watch animated displays, listen to holiday classics, munch on sweet snacks and meet Santa in his workshop!

But best of all, donations collected at the event and partial proceeds from the train tickets go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. Last year the event raised $270,000, and with more than 100,000 visitors expected this year, the event is expected to raise more than $275,000. Entry to the plaza is by donation (you don’t have to ride the train to see the lights) and train tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children/youth/seniors and free for children ages 3 and under.

Bright Nights in Stanley Park has long been a special attraction for visitors of our Vancouver bed and breakfast and a beloved holiday tradition for many families in the Lower Mainland. It’s an extremely popular event, so make sure to buy your train tickets in advance!

How to buy tickets for the train:

On site, at the Miniature Train ticket booth, starting at noon every day.

Through Ticketmaster (service charges apply)

By phone: 1 (855) 985-5000

In person at any Ticketmaster outlet

Through the Ticketmaster website

Getting there:

Stanley Park is only 20 minutes from House on Dunbar B&B. We’d be more than happy to arrange tickets and the best mode of transportation!
