Featuring songs from every production written by R & H, Out of a Dream takes the form of a revue, so there aren’t any pesky narrative getting in the way of the great tunes. Thematically, the production “floats between songs and scenes in a whimsical tribute to these musical treasures,” according to the press release.
With Out of a Dream we trace a line from the best of today’s contemporary musicals back to two masters who defined modern musicals.
Of Broadway songwriting team Rodgers and Hammerstein, Time magazine once said that their partnership “has not yet been equalled. It probably never will be.” Going by the number of productions that their songs made so memorable, the duo is indeed one of musical theatre’s greatest gifts.
