Springtime always comes as a relief in Vancouver. After months of rain and grey skies, Vancouverites are glad to finally be able to head outside during sunny days. Flowers bloom, cherry trees turn pink and white, and there’s a definite sense of happiness and renewal in the streets.
Here are some spring events to celebrate the return of the warm season!
Vancouver Cherry Blossoms Festival
Now if there’s a festival that defines spring in Vancouver, it has to be this one. Did you know that Vancouver has over 40,000 cherry trees?
This event is inspired by the traditional Japanese Sakura festivals. Most of the events are free. They include:
- A free outdoors event with dancing, performances and music
- Self-guided blossom tours
- Japan fair
- Haiku contest
Visit the Vancouver Cherry Blossoms Festival website for more information.
Stanley Park Easter Train
Whether or not you have kids, it’s nice to enjoy a little Easter celebration. The Stanley Park Easter Train is a Vancouver tradition, and it is great fun to even just hang out and watch children hunt for eggs. The train will be appearing between March 15 and 30, and then again between April 16 and 21.
Vaisakhi Day
Vaisahki Day celebrates the Sikh New Year. The Vancouver parade will happen on April 12th and begins at the corner of Ross and 64th avenue. Taking public transit is recommended.
If you want to see one of the biggest Vaisahki parades outside of India, then head to Surrey on April 19th. There will be free food, live music, rides and a big celebrating crowd. Visit the Surrey Vaisakhi Parade website for more information about the route and how to get there.
There are lots of things to do to celebrate spring in Vancouver—which event will you attend?
